A good recipe for strife, when such a sharp distinction can be made for love of one or another of our kids.
Genesis 25:27-28 ESV
[27] When the boys grew up, Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field, while Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents. [28] Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
It’s natural to have an affinity for those who have similar interests and personalities, and that could extend to our children. But it tears at me to wonder if any of my kids would ever think I love any one of them more than the rest. But it’s certainly possible I have given that impression at times with either my words or actions.
Fathers, we must be on guard to bring ALL of our kids up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. This will require time, attention, and most likely doing things we would rather not do. It takes genuine love through the work of the Spirit. It takes work. And it is worth it.
