For Glory and Beauty

Exodus 28:2 ESV
[2] And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty.

These chapters that describe the crafting and building of the tabernacle, as well as the priestly garments are fascinating.

Starting in chapter 25 God gives instructions for collecting materials needed from the people, which is amazing in and of itself. These wandering desert nomads carried a lot of stuff around!

Then God describes in intricate detail how the tabernacle and furnishings are to be crafted. This was no plain Jane structure! How they did it in the middle of the desert is mind-boggling. God instructs it be “skillfully” done more than once. It must have been a sight to see.

In the verse above God tells Moses to make holy garments for his brother Aaron, the high priest. They are to be made for “glory and beauty”, but like the tabernacle itself, not for man’s glory but for God’s!

We see all through these chapters that the God of the Bible is a God of order, creativity, and beauty. How amazing that One such as this created us and wants to have a relationship with us. All praise, honor and glory belongs to Him!
