Exhort Who?

Hebrews 3:12-13 ESV
[12] Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. [13] But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

It has been my habit to post part of the my daily Scripture reading with a thought or two on the blog and some social media. Not because I am any great Bible scholar, but just as a way of both keeping me accountable to regular reading and maybe encouraging someone else who happens to stumble across it.

In Hebrews we see that each of us need daily exhortation and encouragement to stay faithful to God’s truth. It is easy for the world to beat us down and for sin to creep into our lives. When that happens day after day, we are in danger of fracturing our very relationship with God.

While there is nothing wrong with sharing thoughts through electronic media, I was convicted that I need to do a better job of exhorting and encouraging those in my own home. My wife and kids need this, and husbands reading this, so do yours. While I often tell my kids I am praying for them, I rarely ask them for specific things to pray FOR. For those of us who sometimes struggle to get a meaningful answer to the query “How was your day?”, perhaps “How can I pray” could get the ball rolling better.

Satan always has been the great deceiver, and as these verses indicate, the deceitfulness of sin is very much still in the arsenal. We need each other, brother and sisters. We need to exhort, and be exhorted. We need to challenge, and be challenged.  To lovingly confront and be confronted.

Who can you exhort and encourage today?
