This term “without blemish” is repeated over and over in context of the different offerings that were to be made by God’s people. It was not just about the animal, but showed carefulness and the desire to worship God as He instructed. Under the New Covenant we do not have to make such offerings, for which I am very grateful!
But the lesson remains – worship to God should be approached purposefully and with a clean heart.
Leviticus 3:1 ESV
[1] “If his offering is a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offers an animal from the herd, male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the Lord.
