This seems really harsh. But it is another reminder that we are to do God’s things God’s way. There were specific men and specific ways the Ark of the Covenant was to be moved, and this wasn’t it.
It seems like in our day the tendency is to try to “get around” the clear teachings of God we don’t like. Authority in the home, church, and society. Human sexuality. Even the very nature of God himself as revealed in Scripture.
There are consequences, and they are severe.
2 Samuel 6:6-7 ESV
[6] And when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. [7] And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God.
