Reading through Moses prayer in Psalm 90 we come to this section:
Psalm 90:10-12 ESV
[10] The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. [11] Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you? [12] So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
These verses reminded me of a recent study in Ephesians 5, where Paul writes;
Ephesians 5:15-16 ESV
[15] Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, [16] making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.
There are some common themes here;
– Life is not all sunshine and rainbows
– Our time on earth is finite
– We need the Wisdom of God to both navigate our lives well and steward the time we have for His glory.
And getting that wisdom? It takes work. It takes discipline. Studying the Word, time spent in prayer, time spent with brothers and sisters sharpening one another, time in our local church being equipped to do the work of the ministry.
Answering the call of discipleship is not for the faint of heart. Take up my cross? Die daily? Lose my life for His sake? To spend and be spent? That’s what we sign up for?
Yes. Yes it is.
And why?
Here’s the Apostle Paul again;
Romans 8:18 ESV
[18] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
The “present time” goes faster than we think. But for those who love God there is a glory beyond comprehension.
Moses knew it. Paul knew it.
We should know it too, and live accordingly.
